Individual Counseling
The Gold Standard; Individual counseling is a one-on-one session with a counselor. My role is to help you learn more about yourself, be unbiased when you wish to discuss ideas or situations, and provide somewhere that allows you to be fully yourself and also fully accepted.
-
I don’t know, that is up to you! I may ask questions, but we talk about what YOU want to talk about. If there is something you don’t want to discuss, say so. My role is to assist you and your goals, not drag you to where I think you should go.
-
To quote Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers); Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. I am not intimidated by the heavier, harder, and uglier parts of life and fully understand that those are the areas that anyone could use the most support.

My standard rate is $110.00 for a 75 minute session. However, I do offer sliding scale pricing for a number of clients so feel free to ask.

It is true, most counseling sessions are 50 minutes long and mine is 75 minutes long. I do this because I have found that clients tend to talk about lighter topics for 10-20 minutes, leaving only half (or less, sometimes) of the session to talk about what is really on their mind. By adding 25 more minutes, my clients do not feel pressured to jump into topics they would prefer to build towards. In addition, clients tend to get more “bang for their buck” per session.

Counseling (Psychotherapy) is a form of medical service. The difference is that it is medical service for the mind and spirit instead of the body, and for some reason, this has led people to believe that counselors do our jobs based on Vibes and Intuition. Which is far from the truth! Research has been done and we know how people can be best served with the time and money they are investing in their well being. As such, I want to honor that trust clients place in me as the expert, and provide services that are based in rigorous evidence and not my personal whims.

Understandable! These situations can not just be difficult legally, but also psychologically. Here is what you need to know: I AM a mandated reported (meaning for certain things, I am Legally required to contact authorities). However, there are only Four Categories that I am mandated to report on: Child Abuse, Elder Abuse, Imminent Threat of Harm to Self (Suicide), and Imminent Threat of Harm to Another (Assault/Murder/Etc). If your situation does not fall into these categories, I am legally bound to keep my mouth shut and not worry about it! I’m a Counselor, not a Detective.
